Sewing the broom is the most important job in broom making. I use a vice to press the broom flat so it is easier to be sewn. I use a 6 inch needle and special cuffs that go on my hands to help me push the needle though. I use 100 pound test hemp to weave and sew my brooms. The vise has a pat. date of September 10, 1878.
